HACCP, DIN 10524

HACCP stands for “Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points”. HACCP is not a legal requirement, but a guideline for which company-specific requirements are possible. This guideline does not deal with PPE, but rather the protection of food.

Workwear certified by DIN 10524 is not PPE worn to protect the wearer of the clothing. The specifications for this standard are designed to maintain impeccably hygienic conditions in the handling of foodstuffs. The nature and scope of this workwear is geared to the specific requirements of the relevant workplace, and to the type of products and processing used. The workwear in food businesses should prevent a situation where unsuitable clothing or deviation from the regulations produces a detrimental effect on the foods being manufactured, handled or brought to the market. How often clothing must be changed is determined by the risk category (RC 1 – 3): RC 1 = changed weekly, RC 2 = changed daily, RC 3 = changed at least once a day; in all classes, an earlier change may be necessary depending on how dirty clothing is.
